Giuseppina and Rosetta, respectively, mother and daughter, born and lived in San Mauro Cilento, grant a precious interview about Cilento’s food and popular traditions and Cilento. Giuseppina began her interview explaining the work in the countryside in the past and as the gardens were cultivated. Rosetta continues speaking, however, the ancient irrigation systems of gardens, when the washrooms did not exist but there were springs of water, in the valleys, called wash. Along with dealing of the Cilento food traditions, especially of San Mauro, they explain as was the preparation of salted anchovies, the production of bread and the olive oil. The latter was done using only natural fertilizers, were small grains, called beans, which were placed in the grooves under the ground to fertilize it in the most simple and healthy as possible. Finally after talking with traction plates as so-called “eggplant cilentane” they conclude the interview recalling the traditions related to the wedding. Especially as the traditions have changed in the 50 years (Marriage of Josephine) to 70 years (Marriage of Rosetta). They Explain with ease and spontaneity as they have moved from poverty to abundance, sharing with us their precious memory.
